Since I don't really need two Volvo wagons, I am selling one or the other. See the V70R listing for the other. Once one sells I will no longer be selling the other.
1997 850R wagon automatic. Mileage on the odometer is not accurate. From what I was told when I bought it, it would have about 175,000 miles now.
I bought the wagon in the winter and used it for multiple trips around the Midwest going to ski races. It has been very reliable for me.
Besides engine oil and filter changes I have done the following:
Repaired instrument cluster so that all lights and the odometer work again
Repaired the outside air temp sensor
Replaced a rear bump stop
New battery
Issues with car:
It lets out a puff of oil smoke when the car has been sitting for awhile and is started. The PCV system has been replaced. I would assume either turbo seals or valve guides.
Glovebox door latch is broken.
There is a clunk that can be heard on rough roads. It sounds like it is coming from the rear suspension. It seems to go away when the ambient temp is warmer. I couldn't find anything loose. Maybe shocks (nivomat installed)?
AC doesn't work. I was given a new dryer and told that was what needed to be replaced. I haven't done anything with that yet.
Information from previous owner:
Timing belt/tensioner/water pump replaced fall 2013
Full PCV system replaced with OEM Volvo two years ago
New thermostat, expansion tank, and full Zerex G-05 coolant flush in November (previous owner replaced radiator and hoses two years ago)
New Kumho Ecsta PA31 tires in August (also replaced serpentine belt and tensioner, as well as air filter, fuel filter, and all vacuum elbows at this time)
New ABS/TRACS module from Midwest ABS in August
Synthetic oil used religiously by previous owner and myself, currently on Rotella T6 5W-40
StopTech stainless lines, drilled/slotted rotors and pads installed by previous owner
Delrin subframe bushings and poly torque mount installed by previous owner
Windows tinted by previous owner
Passed emissions with no trouble, no CEL, starts easy even on cold days
Decent JVC stereo unit with USB/aux in
The front air dam was repaired by the previous owner. It currently has an aluminum backing strip riveted in. There are cracks visible.
The interior shows its age. The driver seat does have a tear in the outside bolster.

Interested in this R. Actually I was interested in it last time it was for sale too. By the time I'd gotten the money together it was gone. My old 855t is very tired. About 225k on it and it needs more money in repairs than it's worth. Just noticed your ad is from March, is the car still available?
