I didn't want to clog up the major repair threads, but I did want to thank the forum-ites for documenting and explaining pretty much everything.

This weekend for me it was rebuilding the rear brake calipers, then replacing the pads, rotors and e-brake shoes, adjusting the lastmost, and then a rousing finish with new shocks installed.

I really dislike the all hard line connector on the brakes--very hard to get those suckers started in properly. And I was deeply grateful for the warnings about the shock bolts--I managed to work everything loose without breaking anything by doing the 'back and forth' with lots of PBBlaster.

I ran out of light before I could replace the front brake lines and purge the old fluid in the front, but I already have markedly better braking, since one piston one rear caliper was not working at all, AFAIK.

I found all the information I needed to get the job done right--although I am very slow...

Well done, Dean. I hope you at least have a driveway to work in.

One trick on threading brake lines. Start them before you bolt the caliper (or wheel cylinder on drum brakes) so you can manipulate the angle of the threads and caliper easier. Finger tight, then tighten with wrench after bolting caliper in place.

Ah--I knew there would be a trick. In fact one of the videos showed them doing that, but I did not recognize the significance at the time... I also dislike that you can't use a pinch clamp on them to keep the brake fluid from dripping.

Yes, I'm out of the city now, with my own driveway, but it was still chilly yesterday--30s--so not the best weather for repairs, although it was OK in the sun.

And pizza boxes make the best "under wheel" tarps for brake jobs. The folded up edges contain the dripping brake fluid so you don't get the driveway all fouled up and in trouble with SWMBO.

You get a free pie for doing your own brakes, of course.
