05 XC90 w/ Nav and DVD Player Expertise needed

Post by major masingil »

Hi folks,

Backstory:
I just purchased a used 05 XC90 with Factory Navigation and DVD player. During the negotiation for the vehicle I noticed the DVD player was giving an error indicating the Shutter was open. They told me they would fix it. Their plan was to completely replace the player. (which was fine with me) The replacement player was not in until after I took possession of the vehicle, arrangements were made to install it. As I drove the vehicle home before the DVD was replaced I was trying out the Nav system. When I turned it on using the steering wheel control buttons I had (4) options Settings, Navigation, DVD, and Turn Off. I assumed it would be possible to play the DVD using the Steering wheel Controls seeing as the option was there. However since the DVD Player was in and error state of operation I never had a chance to try it out. I don't think the DVD would report to the same screen as the Nav in the front of the vehicle, but as a new Volvo owner I don't know. I did think the audio would play through the car's Stereo system, but again as a noob to Volvo It's another unknown to me. The dealer replaced the DVD player the other day and now the "DVD" (It may have possibly said "Entertainment" or something similar) selection does not appear on the front seat Nav Screen when I turn the system on. again I was certain I saw a there was a choice for it on the front seat Nav screen before they replaced it.

Questions:
1) Can the DVD player controls be operated using the Steering wheel Nav buttons?
2) Does the DVD audio play through the factory stereo system or are "external Blutooth speakers" required to hear audio from the DVD player?
3) Did I only see the DVD option on the front Nav Screen because there was an active DVD Player error at that time?
4) Is the DVD Player different for models which also include factory Nav Systems? ie. is there one type of DVD player for volvo models without Nav and a different player for Volvo's with Nav?

I'm not aware of factory DVD players in Volvos as early as 2004. Could you provide a photo of the unit?
