1990 740gl driveshaft center support

Post by 5ft24 »

Has anyone replaced the center driveshaft support bearing? If so, does it require a press, and also, they list 2 sizes of bearings and supports. One for a type 03 driveshaft, the other a type 13. Any way to tell without pulling the driveshaft and measuring it?

Its been a few years, but I may have used a press

Older 240s had a different shaft diameter than later ones...where the cut-off date is, I don't know.

Jimmy57 says: The shaft must be put together with the u joints in the proper relationship. There should be stamped lines on that vintage shaft on the two pieces at the slip joint area. They are stamped after its painted and usually the marks are rusty. The middle and rear joints are 90 degrees offset. UJ's speed up and slow down as they move when there is any angularity. TO assure no vibration the two are offset 1/4 turn so the speed changes cancel each other
