2003 XC70 ABS Anti-Skid lights

Post by Stephen0523 »

[img]Hello. Just yesterday the ABS anti-skid lights came on in my Volvo XC70. We have had an extreme amount of thawing due to the warm weather and heavy snow we had this winter. I am thinking that there is a dirty sensor or something.

Would anyone have advice as to how I can clean, inspect and turn the warning lights off for the brake system?
Or would this be something better left to the dealer?

Just by coincidence, I got this in from FCP about this issue today:

As they rightly state, first order of business is to see if the software upgrade has been done on your car. Volvo did this upgrade to 'de-sensitise' the system from over reporting issues. They can also diagnose any codes while there. Had to do this about a year ago on our 2006 XC70.

Ideally your car should be scanned with Vida-Dice.

However in our northern climate with the calcium used on roads a common failure is the ABS tone ring. It is also something to investigate. Dorman 917-553 fits P2.

See the following videos on "how to repair" if you have one ABS ring that is broken. They are for Ford-Escape but their configuration is similar to Volvo.

S70 1998 T5 355,000km, sold

760 1990 Turbo 265,000km, sold

Hi all. I took some time last weekend and took the system apart and pull the sensors and noticed they were very dirty. I cleaned down and used a tool to clean the tone / reluctor rings through the hole when the sensor was removed and all is working well again!

This leads me to another question. Where would be the best place to buy high-quality rings when these ones do finally fail? I almost thought of adding with the fine brush some high quality rust
