I bought G57040 strut assembly for my 1998 v70xc. Will these fit my car with no problems. I don't care if it sits lower. What is different on the front suppension between the v70, v70 awd, and the xc's. Is it the strut, spring, or spacers that are different. I'm talking year 1998.
Gabriel say the G57040 does not fit the xc's.
Thanks, Bill

thanks Lee,
Should work fine (great). If anything put old springs back in. I'll check ride height before and after install.

You will likely notice it more in handling than in ride height. The spring rate is different and the car may tend to dive more when cornering. Spring and shock combinations are like a black magic to get the optimal compromise between ride and handling and there is a fair amount of synergy between the front and rear spring rates. It may bother you or it may not and things are going to be radically different after you change out worn struts anyway. Putting the old springs back on kind of defeats the purpose of the strut assembly but it should absolutely work.

FCP euro has different part numbers for the struts between xc and others. I'm thinking the spring mount on the strut is mounted at a different height on the strut. Very few options for the xc's struts replacements.

I fitted Bilstein Tourings to my 98 XC when I had it. They were very good. Sachs/Boge are also usually a cheaper but good option. I believe they may be OE supplier. I'm not a big fan of Munro or Gabrial parts as over the years they have been awful to just ok.
Living in Canada I bought them from this company:
http://www.bilsteincanada.com/index.php?cPath=1
The advantage for me is they are in Canadian $ (currently at 80c to US) and in Canada it is free shipping.
IPD lists the Sachs at US$ 100 ea and Bilstein Touring at US$130 ea.

The Gabriel G57040 fit fine on the xc. Ride is 1/2" lower than old original 200k miles struts. Ride is much improved. I had to replace because of failed mount (Strut trying to go thur hood). Easy install.

I just went through this exercise last week. After installing the Strut assembly from a GLT, my poor XC took on the look of a lowered wagon. The fender covered 1/2" of the tire. After more research I put in the old XC Springs and ended up with the ride height and comfort I was looking for.
