98 v70xc timing belt issue

Evening all,

All topics covering replacing the timing belt and setting the time say that the camshafts sprockets marks should line up with the belt cover notches and the crank shaft notch (notches in my case) should line up with the mark on the block.

I have spun the motor around six or so times and when the cam marks line up with the cover, then the crank shaft is one full tooth past the mark on the block.

Am I missing something?

Not really. It is possible that it has been one tooth off for a long time. The car will still run and actually run OK at one tooth off but it will run better when they are lined up.

Thanks to a video of yours that is what I am attempting. You had installed NA cams in the Give Away Volvo, I said to my self "You can do that?!" and since I really needed to fix a leak in the cam cover I picked up a set and am making it better. Now I am glad I took on this task and found another thing that neeeded correcting.

Quick update to what I accomplished. After putting in the new cams and triple checking the timing..... I am proud to say that the car runs smoother and with more pep than before.

My son's '96 came to me like that as well so it really isn't as uncommon as you might think. It made a difference but, unfortunately for him, it didn't turn the car into a turbo.

I change my Head gasket set the timing but on attempting to start my 2000 C70 it will not start, there is no compression, any suggestions?

2 questions...

Why post in this seemingly unrelated thread?

Do all 5 cylinders show no compression? If so, your cams are way out of time, and you should pull the head back off to get it set right or you could damage valves (unless that already happened!)
