'99 S 70 P 1017 and running cooling fan after shut off

Two separate incidents today. CEL and code P1017. I know the car needs an ETM. I suspect that's just confirmation.

Later the cooling fan continued to run after shut off after a 20 minute drive at 45 mph tops with ambient temperature of 65 degrees F. I' m guessing time for new ECT and thermostat. Thoughts?

I shut the fan off by pulling the corresponding fuse.

Sounds like bad ect,but check the connector first.Instrument cluster gauge behaviour normal?No code?

I had same issue with the fan staying on, faulty ECT. Replaced it first with an aftermarket one (which turned out to be more expensive then a genuine one), the aftermarket one failed within 3 months. Replaced with a genuine one and been fine for 2 years and counting!

Engine behavior was normal and no CEL associated with the running fan.

With the. P1017, the engine runs rough.

Ha....mine is still original.Around 300k km and counting.Never had an issue with it.

I think that scheduled change of Basf glysantine G48 every 3 years is keeping it in good condition and good working order.

Symptoms you have are pointing to bad ECT.Check it's connector before you order a new one.

So, new coolant, new thermostat, new ECT and still getting a PO1017 code. Any bright ideas?

Did you replaced ect with oem or aftermarket one?
If you replaced it with aftermarket,that's the reason why.
Also...thermostat temperature should be appropriate.
