2000 V70R - AWD fuel pipe removal question

Post by scot850 »

As some of you will have read, I am part way through the removal of the rear sub-frame on my 2000 V70R. On of the requirements for the complete removal is to disconnect the 'fuel pipes' in the back of the engine bay near the fire-wall. The instructions I have are for an early AWD, and looking at the pictures there are 2 fuel lines and an emissions line. However, my car has only 2 lines.

One appears to run all the way from somewhere at the rear of the rear sub-frame/emissions canister area and the other end runs up to the purge valve at the radiator on the LH side of the radiator. Do you have to remove the line all the way from the purge valve back or can it be removed at the back some place? The pipe has a 'T' just in-front of the RH rear wheel, but does not look to split there. Can it be removed at the rear?

There appears to be only one 'plastic' fuel line (yikes!) that runs from the back of the car (I'm guessing from the out side of the fuel filter) to the back of the engine block. I can't find a way to disconnect it at the back easily, as the pipe runs under a bunch of stuff and I don't want to break it.

What I don't know is how to disconnect the line at the back of the engine. Volvo instructions give no hints other than disconnect!

Picture below shows the pipe coming from the back of the car (it is the pipe at the bottom running across the gaiter for the steering rack).

Picture below is the connection I need to disconnect. I have de-pressurised the fuel line.

Many thanks to anyone who can direct me on these 2 issues!!

As no-one came to my help here, I went to the dealer spoke to the dealer foreman, and found out the connection has a 'barbed' fitting. It was a bit of a pain to get to at the back of the engine block, but with some strong vocal encouragement and gently moving the pipe connection, it came undone.

The black part at the end is a plastic release clip. I used plenty of Deep Creep and an old toothbrush to clean any dirt around the collar raised end and the aluminum housing. Holding the aluminum hosing with one hand, I used a 9mm open wrench to push the collar into the aluminum 'bell' until it move easily, then gently moved the pipes up and down to release the seal, and then it came a part.

This is the end that runs up to the intake and fuel rail. It is the black pipe in the middle of the picture. You can see the raise collar that the other end snaps over when connecting.

When I don't get any help, I like to do more research which takes a lot more time, but, hopefully it will help anyone else that hits this problem.

Thanks for posting the answer to your own question Neil. Likely saved me a lot of time, as this is pretty much my last hurdle before pulling my engine.

Glad I was able to help. Sometimes you just have to do the graft to figure stuff out as folks have either not done this before, or are not on MVS at the time. Good luck with your engine pull!
