Everything on the Volvo S80. Sometimes called an "executive car", the S80 was Volvo's top-of-the-line passenger car. P2 platform.

1999 S80 1600-1800 RPM Vibration Rumble

Post by sskerry »

I have been doing a lot of googling and forum browing, and see many topics on this for other model volvos, specifically the D5 volvos.

This is a the 2.9, and no matter what speed, I get a bit of a deep rumble / vibration noise when accelerating and driving. It only happens when I'm in the 1600-1800 RPM range, and in any gear. It is especially noticeable when driving 80 km/h as the engine RPM stays within the range, extermely annoying. It sounds like you can hear it from either side of the front end.

I dont have any experts near me to look into this problem, so I'm hoping someone can chime in, my best guess is the CV shafts/axels or maybe an engine mount. Thanks for any help!

Does it change when turning either way? Does it go away completely above 1.8k or it's just less?
