2001 C70 Original cluck kit visual looks

Post by Roljiks »

Sorry if there is any info about this, but i just couldnt find the answer anywhere.

The problem is i bought an Volvo clutch kit in Ebay, it was stated as Original Volvo part, now i hawe received it, but it has volvo, sachs and valeo written on it, is that realy the original clutch kit?
If it is the original i could understand Valeo or Sachs written on it, but why both?
I actualy dont care who makes the cluch all i need is original quality :)
Its hard to see but a bit lower from Valeo there is Sachs logo on it.

Volvo doesn't actually make the clutch, they source it from Sachs. Sachs is thus the OEM supplier but since it has the Volvo part number as well it appears to be a true OEM product.

The only time I know for sure something is OEM is when it is in the blue box and I pick it up at the Volvo dealer parts counter since there is quite a bit of counterfeiting in the auto parts world. A Volvo clutch, however, isn't likely to be a counterfeited item since there simply isn't enough demand to justify the effort.

I know volvo isnt making the clutch, but i cant understand why is Sachs(if its the original) putting Valeos name on the clutch. I got the clutch kit for 200Eur its 220Usd, the dealer asks 350Euros for the clutch kit, so it was alot cheaper.

Apparently Sachs and Valeo, while still being separate companies, have a collaborative manufacturing agreement of sorts and Sachs is buying component pieces on some clutches from Valeo. I did a Google search and it has many people scratching their heads.

What I do like about the picture of your clutch is the size of the friction material. The last Sachs clutch kit I bought had a narrower band of friction material than the original clutch I was replacing. It seems to work fine but intuitively more surface area is better. The clutch in your picture has the same width of friction material as my original clutch.

Thank you for your help, i guess it has to be the original clutch, thats all i wanted to know :)
Im trying to use just Original parts, but not always i can afford original, because some original parts are just ridiculously expensive, for example 1 rear midrange speaker costs 250eur :D
