98 V70 Trip Computer Activation: What Code?

Post by hockeyjake1997 »

Hi there. I know this has been re-hashed over and over, but it seems theres a lot of conflicting answers. For a 98 V70 (does not accept software) what is the 4 digit code my dealer is going to need to enter via the VST. Is it the VGLA Locktype Code or something else? Anyone who's successfully had this done this recently know?
Thanks!

There is no common code. You have to buy it.

If by common you mean universal I knew that. But to be clear, its not in the same database as the radio code?

Why not simply install a cluster that already has the feature and close mileage (if that matters to you)?

I thought about that, but does it have to be exactly a 98? Because the '99 and '00 use software. Plus I'm in NY and our inspections are pretty rigorous. Over is ok, (although I'd like to not gain like 50,000 miles) but I'm more worried the new one will be way too low to make up the difference and It'll be a hassle at next year's inspection.

Yes, the cluster does need to be a 98. Swapping is a great way to go in my opinion, can be much cheaper than having the dealer activate your existing one.

I did the switch, and it works great! It may be worth noting that for some reason 2 out of the 4 backlights for the instruments blew when I installed the new one. I don't know why but it all works now after swapping in new bulbs.

How many miles does your car have? I see these clusters with all kinds of mileage from 165,000 to 275,000.
