2000 volvo s70 glt se strut dust boot

I know I should have, but didn't replace the dust boot on my right strut while replacing the spring seat. I didn't have the part and needed back on the road immediately. My question is, can I just cut the thing off? The noise is driving me insane. The roads I drive on a paved but slightly bumpy and that makes the boot rattle constantly. Thanks.

You can cut it off but in the long run it will kill the strut. Long run being measured in years not days and part of that depends on where you live. The road salt and sand will kill it sooner.

I made the same mistake myself when replacing the struts about three years ago. I used some black "gaffer's" tape to wrap around the split in the dust boot. This has been working pretty well so far to hold it together. I made a mental note next time I replace the struts and spring seat to include a new dust boot as well.
