Night and day differences. Most folks, including myself, would advise staying with the 98 if you have a choice.

I am looking at a 1998 with 80k miles, I was not sure if it was too old, but it seems like the Volvo can really do some miles if well looked after.

Definitely. A well maintained whiteblock should have no problem whatsoever making it to 300k miles. Keywords there being Well maintained.

Go for it!! ...actually, these cars are starting to see some years on them so it's fairly rare to find one under 100K miles now. I bought mine with 87K miles on it last year and that was a find. Just make sure the timing belt was done at 70K or there-abouts and the A/C blows cold. Good luck and let us know what you do.
