2002 Volvo Passenger side AC cycles warm and cold

Post by V70Bill »

I have had my 2002 V70 AC system recharged by the dealer and by a repair shop that specializes in Volvo repairs. I have had the compressor clutch gap checked and confirmed it is OK. The system operating pressures are within the normal specifications.

The AC systems seems to always start out cooling properly. But after some time (varies from 5 minutes to an hour or more, the passenger vents start blowing warm air while the drivers side vents continue to blow cool air. The system has individual thermostats for the driver and passenger. I have tried cycling the passenger thermostat. This helps sometimes and sometimes it has no effect. Since I drive most of the time, my wife is dealing with the passenger warm air. I do not have a "happy wife!"

Suggestions for a fix??

The system has separate blend doors for the driver and passenger to allow for two different temperature settings. Its pretty clear that your passenger blend door is INOP. It isn't an expensive part from a PnP (or maybe even new?) but I don't know how hard it is to get to on your P2.

My 2005 reports replacement is removing glove box and two screws - I think your 2002 is the same.

I would have it calibrated first.
Since it has to go on VIDA anyway you can first see if the vent has an active code
