2001 S60 raw gas in charcoal canister

2001 S60 raw gas in charcoal canister

My mechanic has observed raw gas in canister but is have trouble getting it off. Had car 1.5 weeks. Any help with why this is happening and the procedure to get it off? He is a great mechanic specializing in Volvo and Saab. I have one of each.
SYMPTOMS: Car was stuttering badly (dark emission out tailpipe when it did) and sometimes dies. Substantial gas leak when filling.
