Last night, I guess. It looks like vandalism, small hole smashed, almost like it was punched (no skin or blood visible). Whole window fractured but didn't fall apart, surprisingly. With a little more effort they could have gained entry, so I don't suspect that was the goal.
I have started a claim and have spoken with a couple of auto glass shops. Not available in aftermarket, Volvo still sells them. I timed out this afternoon on calling Pilkington that makes Volvo windshields, so will call them tomorrow to find out if they have it.
Not yet determined if insurance will cover OEM which is around $450.
Is the antenna built into that window? It looks like it. If so, will that ever work again with a replacement? What would be a good alternative antenna for a wagon?

Oh bummer. I feel your pain--my wife had her car broken into at a Cracker Barrel--driver's window smashed all over the interior for nothing more than a book-bag with a few books.
The left rear wagon window has the antenna which probably explains the high replacement cost. If Volvo is the only source for this glass, then your insurance should cover it--minus your comprehensive deductible. A good glass company should be skilled in reconnecting the antenna. It would be a good idea to put some clear packaging tape on the inside and out before driving it to the shop. This worked for me on an RV window once and we drove hundreds of miles before reaching home.

Same window was deliberately broken on our 2000 V70 by a flying can of lemon squash. I was able to get a used glass for $110 and have the local windscreen repairer swap the coloured steel panel over from the original. Total cost was $165 without an insurance claim (not worth it because of excess and increased premium.)

Thanks for the feedback guys. cn90: yup, #3. I searched online, I think there's a used one available locally if I need that.
The car was stationary in a location where something "falling" like off a truck (in the alley) might have damaged it. There would have an object below. There is a lilac branch nearby that could have been used but that neighbor would not likely have been the perp.
More later.

A nationwide search by Pilkington reps didn't turn up any left quarter glass units though they had a reference number for it, so that left Volvo branded glass only. Fortunately, my glass coverage doesn't require a deductible, and a local Safelite shop has a few in inventory, so tomorrow I get it replaced. Onward and upward.
