2001 V70 XC no third gear (automatic)

I am offered the car - pretty good cosmetics, at 180K miles. No price yet, but could someone tell me about the missing third gear and the worth of the car, ballpark? I hear all sorts of things like "stay away" to "just replace the relay"... Maybe $900?

Sounds like the classic B4 band problem. This AISIN transmission is a known problematic beast.

Car should be free and you should like working on problems.

Seriously, its a parts car.

I'd say that's true/ My 94 855T runs great, but needs a new interior. Maybe I can swap parts.
