1998 S70 Intermittent Brake Lights

As of recently the brake lights in my S70 have been working intermittently. Sometimes when I press the pedal they come on, sometimes they don't. The come on more times than not. It's all 3 brake lights that do this, not just the two on the sides. I'm thinking it's the brake light switch that's located on the brake pedal not getting a good contact or something.

Possibly related (although I'm thinking it's not related) is that the bulb check warning light flashes intermittently as well. It flashes for just a split second out of the corner of my eye. It doesn't always do it, just occasionally. It will do it when applying the brakes, turn signals, or headlights.

The car is a 1998 S70 GLT with about 190k miles on it.

All the brake light switch does is close a circuit. So to test, remove both wires, and place a small length of wire between the two removed wires. The brake lights should be on. If so, replace the brake light switch on the pedal. If not, then I would replace the brake light relay. If that still does not work, there is probably a bad ground in the circuit.

I'd start by confirming that the switch is properly adjusted.

I am curious how you first discovered that it did not work sometimes. This way i'll know what to look out for.
