2001 V70 Power Locks Don't Work.

Post by Daspete »

Hi,

First time posting, long time lurker for my '97 850.

Just got a 2001 V70 with 193k on it (5spd, N/A, fwd), and I love it.

The problem is the power locks don't work. Electronics really aren't my cup of tea so any advice is appreciated.

Front driver side- power lock switch and window controls don't work.
Front Passenger side- lock switch doesn't work, window works
Rear- windows work
Hatch- is locked and stuck that way.

I don't have a remote fob, and I've checked all the fuses that I believe are related.

Thanks!

If the driver door button isn't working it probably isn't getting power. If the fuse is good , it's wiring tracing time.scan the inter webs for the wiring diagram , we don't host them here

Bunk
You need new (or used) locks and some window switches.
I just had this on my new to me 07 XC with only 100K miles
The rear windows would not work from either switch. Both being bad led me to think it might have had a electrical issue.
I bought an 05 XC last week which was heading back to the auction for major misrepresentation, so we swapped rear window switches. Everything worked as new!
(I also swapped its near new headlights it had (it was recently hit in the front) with my slightly cloudy ones, so I don't feel bad over the $150 or so I lost in the deal!!!)

The DDM (driver's door module) and
PDM (passenger door module) are modules with a logic board and programming. They are very prone to total failure, particularly on 2001s.

A quick scan with Vida will show faults and/or dead boards.

If you already don't have a Vida/Dice setup now would be a great time to invest in one for around $125. With some help from our resident programming guru, Henry, you can program a used 2003 or 2004 DDM or PDM to your car & enjoy your windows and locks again.

Before you buy one checkout our dedicated Vida/Dice forum here on MVS.

Was the wiring in these cars known to be unreliable? Or any areas I should check first?

So, if I were to get a new or used DDM/PDM, it would have to be programmed to the car to be functional?

I'll look into the VIDA DICE thing. That's not a bad price. I plan on keeping this car for quite some time, it doesn't have any rust.

I'm already missing the simplicity of the 850.
Thanks! :D

If you buy used you absolutely need to have one from same model year. DDM and PDM software changed on a yearly basis. If you get a used one from 2003 or 2004 you get greater reliability but wrong software. That's where Henry comes in.......

New are over $300 for DDM and need programming .....

Is there a write up for diagnosing the DDM and PDM?

If I have a VIDA/DICE setup I can program it myself? (with Henry's help :D)

The Vida Dice will spot a faulty door module a mile away. The icon for DDM/PDM will be red and there will be associated fault codes during Fault Trace.

The Dice tool can be a gateway to programming. The Vida is unlicensed and will not support software download.
