Help - Strange feeling when I'm in reverse...

2002 XC70 and lately (but not always) when I am in reverse and backing up (seems to happen when I'm backing up to my left) there is a force against me. Even some grinding noise at times. It is quite obvious there is something pulling or restricting movement. Almost feels like the axle is bound with wire or something.

I've had 4 wheel drive pickups before it is the same type of grabbing that you feel when you are in 4 wheel drive and making a tight turn.

Any thoughts? Is it my AWD grabbing? I just bought this car used (Volvo certified and under warranty) last week. I hope this is normal behavior but I don't think so.

sounds like angle (bevel) gear in one of the diffs binding....time to find out how good that warranty is.....oh & BTW, put that phone number to the claims department on speed dial.......
