2000 V70R - AWD Rear axle hub question

I was planning to replace the rear foam seal behind the brake dust shield, but can't figure out how to remove the hub assembly to be able to get the dust shield off as you have to remove is to get the seal behind it. Yes I could just cut and join the foam seal, but if I wanted to remove the dust shield to make it easier to paint how do you so this? Vida is getting like Haynes and misses this action totally as far as I can see. Any help or guidance is always appreciated!

I haven't done it but I think you need to take the cover off of the differential, remove the axle retainer clip, and then slide the axle out. As I recall the wheel mounting flange is all part of the axle and it just rides in the hub bearing.

Thanks Lee. I have the rear axles disconnected (got to love the electric impact gun!!). Once nut was un-done the slid out way easier than a front one has ever done for me.

I found a thread somewhere that shows a special tool to remove the hub from the bearing. I could ask the dealer, but instead will leave alone and paint/de-rust as-is. I had already mostly done these hubs prior to the corrosion discovery so mot too much work to do.

As always, appreciate your and everyone else's input.
