'99 V70 Base, Auto -- Valve Train Noise and PO137

So, I'm getting valve train noise suggestive of the need to do the oil pan pick-up tube o-rings -- a job I've not done before and to which I am not looking forward. I've also picked up a CEL for a P0137 (rear o2 sensor code, I believe). I'm betting that code is getting thrown by a vacuum leak somewhere and will be checking all vacuum lines and elbows.

Any thoughts on a possible inter-relation between the valve train noise and P0137 code? I have to admit, the valve train noise has been going on for a few weeks.

Off the ledge of expertise cliff, or at least on the edge, but Ill speculate if the valve timing is off from low oil pressure at valves that could mess up induction and trip O2 code. Its pretty sensitive to induction issues.

Don't think I'm dealing with an exhaust leak, but it couldn't hurt to check. It just doesn't have that typical exhaust leak sound. More like lifter noise.

Ok -- here's another symptom to add to the list. Wife says if she shifts into 3rd to climb a steep local hill, she feels a loss of power and the CEL illuminates. I believe the code is the same PO137 (it is a rear 02 sensor code). I have not had time to check for an exhaust leak, but do not believe I have one since the entire exhaust system was recently replaced with new aftermarket.

Kind of fits my theory of oil pressure fubaring the CVVT on the exhaust cam at high revs, but that is leading the facts to the conclusion, your Honor...

Since mechanic replace the entire exhaust system not too long ago, it is going back to him to check for an exhaust leak on Monday morning. I'll let you know what I learn. I suspect I'll be dropping the oil pan to do the o-rings, however.

Mechanic has ruled out exhaust leak. According to him, the noise is coming from the engine, not the exhaust system. Oil pan drop here I come.
