01 V70 XC Multiple Electrical Issues

Post by joo070772 »

Hello

I am new here and need some advice/help.
Last night, drove the my wife's XC(01 181XXXXmiles) and suddenly the following issue brought up right after cranked.
Please review the following information and let me know what do I need. Thank you.

1. No audio & auto climate control lights(Audio & ACC is working good).
- 2-3month ago, buzzing noise is coming from ACC when open the door.
It is still in there, I will clean inside the ACC fan.
2. No front & rear fog lights.
3. No headlight, seems only the DRL is working even set it on "0" position. No DIM funtioning.
4. The cluster liht is working:Spped & Tachometer lights.
However, the following lights are very DIM (not bright).
Trip odometer.
Gear and driving mode indicator.
Ambient temperature indicator.
Text window.
5. No warning lights/text message on the cluster.
6. All other electical is funtional.

I am assuming to:

1. DIM switch bad.
2. The battery issue?

Anyone can help? Thank you.

Regards

Perhaps the alternator relay or pulley are failing.

Sounds like a CEM (central electronic module) issue as this central computer controls the bus functions of many other systems in the car.

I would suggest first fully disconnecting the battery then reconnecting the battery terminals after 5 minutes with ignition key in PosII (before starting position)

Sometimes these modules have a glitch that causes all sorts of havoc with other systems in the car. Also if you have access to a test meter there is a test for AC current from the regulator. This can also cause gremlins to surface.

Hello All,

Thank you for advise. After a short diagnose, found it the problem.

1. Alternator relay or pulley: Tested & normal.
2. CEM: Tested & normal.
3. ACC units: Tested & normal, however, need to clean the inside fan soon due to buz noise.
4. All fuses & relays: OK.

Root cause:

1. DIM switch: Tested & mafuntion.
Should repalced a new either good used unit.

Thank you much for help All.

Regards

Good news it was that easy. The DIM switch is it the one that is dimming the dash lights?

Hello All,

Sorry for late response.
Yes, it is dimming the dash lights: headlights & front and rear fog lights switch.

Update:

Recv'd the part($49 from ebay) & tested. Well functioning.
All clear!

Regard
