My cheapie S80 has started to slip in gear from 1-2 Revs up then eventually catches so it needs a gearbox
Now i have been offered a whole S80 with a blown head but looking on Vida it says its a different gearbox part number .....Is that true or will the earlier one fit I do have the whole car!!!
So the info is
Mine S80 YOM 2001, B6284T engine, 4T65EV GT Box, and Chassis number 191148 gives Part number 8251399
head gone S80 YOM 2000, B6284T engine, 4T65EV GT Box, and Chassis number 072495 gives Part number 8251126
How different is this can it be fitted to the newer one????

Hi,
There is a significant difference between the 2003+ transmissions and the earlier ones but you might be looking at internal differences... It could be minor seal differences or it could be the valve body.
I thought all Volvo transmissions had the 'tiptronic' mode but this might be another point of difference. There are 2 part numbers listed in the ATSG update manual 30651257 "standard" trans and 30651253 "tiptronic".
You really could do with the ATSG 4T65E rebuild manual and the update handbook. The update handbook has detailed info on the differences between the Volvo/GM gearbox and all the relevant fixes for the issues - there's a lot of them (published later than the rebuild manual). The rebuild manual covers the rebuild process.
If you wanted to catch up and chat about the gearbox stuff, I'm happy to do so - we are in the same city after all! EDIT Sorry, figured out that this wouldn't be obvious from my location
Cheers,
Chris

Why not buy a rebuild kit and fit some new parts? There is a rebuild thread here perhaps in repair database and with this trans it can be done while still in vehicle.
