1998 s70 replacing brake hoses

Post by JRev »

If i was to replace all brake hoses, am I correct in thinking its 5 in total? 2 hoses for the front and 3 hoses for the rear with 2 for the chassis to axle, 1 from axis to axis?

And is it worth upgrading to braided hoses over the standard ones?

Thanks!

Four hoses total.
I'd stick to FTE (OEM) hoses.

Cheers.

is it definitely 4? as it says for an 850 the rear is 2 but for C/S/V70: A total of 3 hoses are installed (for rear), that info is from an online volvo stockist, http://www.skandix.de/

Edit: Just checked your link cn90! so wasn't meaning to doubt you as you have done the job but this is what it says
To be used as hose used from chasis to axis. See vehicle serial number.
As a hose to be used from axle to axle to the end of production.

FC1 = production location according to chassis number (first number in the seven-digit serial number)

FC2 = production location according to chassis number (first number in the seven-digit serial number)

In the model 850: A total of 2 hoses are installed: 1x to the axis of the chassis, 1 from axis to axis

C/S/V70: A total of 3 hoses are installed: 2x of the chassis to axle, 1 from axis to axis

cn90, I looked at that link and you mention there is a hose that you never replaced as they rarely fail?
The other (Pass REAR) hose (laying on top of the Delta Links) is in a tight spot, nuts are seized in place, so I gave up on this hose!!! F
One of the hoses that need replacing is in a tight spot and looks difficult to replace but it needs replacing as the ferrules are rusted and that hose you mention is the one I was wary of replacing.

I think i read that info incorrectly as they must mean that x3 are installed for the model depending on chassis number so the s/v/c series has the Connection between Body - Axle listed for 2 different chassis numbers, while the 850 doesn't have the hose listed for different chassis numbers.

Anyway I will be having a look and following the brake lines so I would have found out but was just looking at what to order and going to stick with the regular hoses.
