1999 S70 Surging in 2nd, Drive and Reverse

Post by kyalami321 »

Hello all. I've got a 99 S70 that surges heavily (stalls sometimes) exclusively when changing to 2nd gear or moving the shifter from P to R or P to D. It also has a substantial lag (a full second) on the throttle at any gear including reverse and neutral, be it a light tap or an aggressive push.

I have already replaced/cleaned the ETM, changed the air filter, and replaced/cleaned the MAF. There is a silver hose going from the top side of the airbox to the back of the engine (I think) that is falling apart but I don't know if that has anything to do with it all.

Thoughts?

Any vacuum leak after the MAF sensor is going to cause symptoms you have. Can you post a picture of the hose that is failing apart?

Sounds like the hot air hose to air cleaner. I don't think that's the problem.

For some reason I cannot upload the picture to the forum, but here is a link to the Dropbox with the pics.

Someone told me that the throttle position sensor could be at fault, but is that not part of the ETM?

Ok i tried a new pipe the same size as the one in the picture and it didn't change a thing, and I live in hot Miami so it makes sense. I'm glad I got it changed but seems like I'm going to have to try another ETM, this time from Xemodex. Previously I had gotten a remanufactured one from BBA Reman which worked well for a little while. Thanks!
