cross posting on swedespeed, i'm desperate. 152k on the clock. seems a major new problem only days before a schedule departure for a road trip. up until this afternoon, everything was fine. yesterday we did have major rain and there was standing water on the roads. nothing majorly deep and i tried to avoid as much as possible. and the splash guard is off.

driving home today at highway speed, get the "brake system failure" message. pull over, turn off the car, check brakes, all seems ok. restart the car and then have the "engine system service required" message. get home safely, pull the 900b code with my generic reader. clear the code it come back.

start scanning the forums, seems it could be a low voltage issue to the cem or the cem itself. hook up dice, i have about 13.8 volts at the cem when running, 12.04 when not running. i also have a long list of codes in dice. seems every system is affected.

something else i have recently noticed, when i get in the car, say in the morning, the tach jumps a little. sometime just when i get in the car, other times when i turn the key to pos 1.

btw, the battery is at least 4 1/2 years old. i'll go see if there is a date code on it.

help.....please

no date code on the battery. there is a s/n but who knows what that is. i have 12.44 volts at the terminals with the engine off.

interesting, every time i open the driver door, the tach and speedo jump just a little bit. it is repeatable every few minutes. this is with the key out of the ignition. don't know if it is related.

There is a Volvo TSB about water getting into the CEM wiring coming in through the cowl, and contaminating the CEM connectors and harness. Only the earlier production 2005 have this potential problem.
My 2005 is subject to this, so I did some research in the past. Attached is the first page of the bulletin, describing the vehicles affected. This may or may not relate to your problem however.

thanks. where can i find the codes referenced in the tsb? there is a placard in the engine bay with vin and other codes. there is a 6 digit code that falls in the tsb range, 187xxx.

without going into vida, do you recall the repair?

This has sort of piqued my interest as we own a 2005 S80. If you look at the structure week range in the tech note, you'll see that it affects well over a year's worth of production (25th week of 2004 thru the 45th week of 2005). I'm guessing nearly ALL of the 2005 m/y cars are susceptible as Volvo probably started assembling 2005's in mid 2004.

The six digit number would be the last six of the VIN, which you can see on the metal tag on top of the dash if you look in through the windshield. Also, the decal in the drivers door jamb may give you the build date.

total mystery, as fast as the faults arrived, the faults have disappeared. battery checked out ok after a load test. i cleaned all terminals, at batt and under the hood. i blew out the fuse panel at the left side of the dash.

i tend to think that after the heavy rains, some moisture made its way to the cem connector. i fall into the tsb vin range.

i seem to have a recurring dem=0006, aoc pump fault. not sure if this is related of if i have an issue with the awd. will need to investigate further. with this fault would i get a cel?

thanks vtl, good info. i recently changed the fluid in the haldex. i wasn't able to change the filter at the time, had planned to change in the future. thinking this maybe stirred up contaminants and killed the pump. it is what it is.

did i read that it took you a little over a day to complete the job? did you do the job with the car up on ramps or did you have access to a lift? is it ok to drive as is until the repair is made?
