P80 heater hoses...budget solution proposal, PnP request

Post by abscate »

I recently did my P80 hoses and felt the pain of the 140 usd for the two Volvo heater hoses. My T5 is headed to college so I replaced every piece of rubber in the car.

When I pulled the 17 year old hoses, the quality of the rubber of the OEM part impressed me. These hoses were still elastic, solid, no deformation from clamping and honestly did not need replacement.

Putting 140 bucks into an old car for good hoses irks me. I would like to gather up some PnP hoses and give people the option of either carrying spares or, use the copper fittings and new Gates hose, fabricate new hoses at 20 bucks or less.

If anyone has bad hoses, send them to me and I will Dremel off the copper fittings to recover the OEM attachments for the budget fix. Use PM for my address please.

On edit - changed price to reflect reality. 140 bucks for set of Volvo hoses, about 40 for off-brand...
Attachments
These are the old ones. I would rather have these on my kids car than new URO ones.

I bought some blue silicon hose at a local hose shop for about $4 foot and then did what you mentioned, reused the original ends. Looks great, works great and costs a fraction of OEM. Search forum for pictures.

Junkyard pickers, still interested in gathering these hoses up, especially those in the NE, where I can pick them up in rounds and save shipping

Once the snow melts a bit and I can get close to the '98 parts car, I'll put them on the harvest list. And for Pete's sake, will you get some sleep Steve ?

I was just poking a bit of fun at Steve for surfing the Volvo parts catalog at 4 AM.

I'm used to some odd hours having to talk to people overseas but that was just poor sleep habits.

Well, I work overnights, so unfortunately, sleep is far more rare than a 3rd row seat...
