I am about to change the transmission fluid which has become a very dirty dark brown on my 94/ 960. Not a problem as i have done this many times over the years on different volvo models.
I am led to believe that only half of the dirty oil is drained and there is a similar amount left in the torque converter and cooling lines making a clean oil change impossible.
There are many youtube video's showing us how to purge the remaining oil in the system by taking a hose from the supply line to the oil cooler and discharging the remaining fluid into a bucket or something like that whilst topping up the box as it discharges and watching for clean oil to appear.
Do's this method actually purge dirty fluid from the torque converter or is it not possible. A little advice would be great.

This will replace all of the fluid in the trans as the engine is running as the fluid is being replaced. It will take about 12 quarts of fluid to do the job. Make sure to only pump one to two quarts of fluid into the container before shutting off the engine and adding more fresh fluid to replace what was pumped out. Don't want air in the fluid from the fluid getting to low. Repeat this utill clean fluid is going into the container.
