DIY: XC90 Headlight bulb info!

Post by cn90 »

My LEFT side Low Beam went out. As others said, it is confusing when looking up bulbs b/c some guide says H7 and some say H11 bulb.

Your best bet is to remove the HL round cover (first, undo the 2 metal guiders, slide the HL assembly forward) to see EXACTLY what bulb you have.

In my 2005 XC90, the low beam is [H11 bulb. Bought it at Menards hardware store for $11.
FYI, Autohausaz dot com has it for $8.

The owners manual says "twist the bulb CCW". Well, it took me 30 minutes and I could not remove the bulb! So I removed the other side (RIGHT side) for comparison.

Interestingly, the RIGHT side tab (Red circle) was bent inside, so removing the bulb was straightforward).
The LEFT side tab was straight across, preventing the bulb from coming out!

The solution is to remove the 2 Torx scews (Red arrows), then bend the small tab and remove it to make life easier for you.

Tip: to undo the connector, gently bend the plastic side tab on each side a bit while prying the connector with a small flat screwdriver. Go Slow!
