Seatbelt/door chime wont shut up. What to check? 1997 850

Post by yellow95 »

Got in my car saturday to go for a spin, and noticed the seatbelt/door chime wouldnt shut up. Also the lock button would only unloack the doors, not lock them. What should I check? I Had my driver seat reupholstered friday. Could the seatbelt have something to do with it?

well I am sorry nobody responded to your post, I have been on the road for a while, I would say you might have to reset (unplug the battery) and you might be lucky, but be sure and have your code for your radio, and I am leaning more towards, yes the seat might not have been re-connected correctly.

But strange enough today my door chime will not shut up, and I am going to look through my manual and my info disc......? I have not done any changes recently to cause this, other than it has been very hot and humid here!
yes......It is an 850!

I am having the same problem.
I used a home made flash tool to get mileage
the chime won't quit,
fob's wont work
alarm won't arm
lock switch only unlocks doors
car starts and runs.
Any knowledge anywhere?
I have been scouring this site for answers.

Sounds to me like you might have a blown fuse. Check fuse #15. If that fuse is blown the chime will continuously sound, the interior courtesy lights won't work, and the remote locking/unlocking won't work either.

EDIT - I just read that you used a homemade flash tool. The OBD port also shares this fuse so if you crossed a wire with your tool or drew too much power with it, you could have blown fuse 15.

I am havig this problem on my 850 but it only does it when it is cold outside. Chime will ring when I open and then stop when I close the door, but then a few min later will start to chime again. Im thinking I need to pull the door apart and check or lube the switch. I hear this door switch is more complicated than most door push button types. Any advice?

There is a micro-switch on the door latch assembly that tells they system that the door is closed. Something in the actuator arm that depresses the switch is getting hung up in the cold. I would lubricate the lever that depresses the micro-switch but not the switch itself.

Because the noise is coming from inside the car, the fix for this is to remove the thing making the noise. When the noise is coming from outside, the fix is to roll up the windows and turn on the stereo.

Are the lights turning on, or just the dinger?

The dinger is the blue relay up under the dash footwell, if you want to get rid of the offender.

Has any one thought of just replacing the switch that is on the door piller? It is a black compression switch.
My guess is that the switch is worn out and now is not breaking the contack like it would when the door is closed.
I have not replaced this part yet but it can not be that bad.

Changing gears here has anyone repaired the door holder (not sure what it is called) so the car door will stay open.
My driver door will close on a up lean and fly open on a dowared lean.
