2000 Volvo S80 No power in the car

Post by taharka »

Morning Volvo Family

I have a 2000 S80 Volvo with 210,000 miles. Car was given to me by a friend about 2 months ago. After a diagnosis about 3 weeks ago I was informed by the mechanic that the car needed an ETM. I purchased an ETM from XeModex on 8/2415 (Preprogrammed), but have not yet installed same. The car ran fine since it was given to me with the exception of the cut off due to the bad ETM. The car cut of twice since I have it, but started again, and I managed to strutter my way home. I wasn't driving the car after it was diagnosed for a new ETM, just moving the car from side to side on a daily basis to avoid any parking tickets, until I replaced the ETM. On Monday (8/25/15) I went to move the car because it was parked on the wrong side of the street for the following day (Tuesday), and the car did not start. When I turn the ignition on there was no lights on the dash board, no horn, head lights did not come on, windows did not go up nor down, and was wondering what could have caused the problem. The very first day I got the car (first week of July 2015 - that Tuesday) a brand new battery was installed. When I had experienced the first cut off (the Friday of the week I got the car) I took it to the mechanic shop and a check revealed that the alternator was good, the starter was good, etc. I usually make sure that all lights (interior and exterior) are off when leaving the car. Does anyone have any idea why the car will not turn over, or any of the other components as mentioned above inoperable? As always your feed back will not go unappreciated.

I could be wrong on this, but you might have a bad battery. You should test the battery out to see if it can hold a charge or if it needs charging.

The car was towed to the mechanic shop the same evening it could not start due to power failure. The mechanic charged the battery and it started without problem. However, he advised that there might be a problem with my house lights. The battery was a brand new battery as stated in my original post. On my way home the sun roof did not work nor was the house lights coming on. When I got to my house I sat in the car for about 15 minutes with the engine running. I tried opening the sun roof and putting on the house lights, but neither one worked. Then as soon as I open the door to exit the car the house light came on. I tried the sun roof but that did not work. I have had problems in the past two months with the sun roof. Sometimes it work and then at other times it wouldn't work. Can anyone provide some insight?

I have a similar problem with my 2003 S80 T6. At first it would hesitate and shut off while under a load while idling low. Once warmed up it drives fine but still idled low while stopped, check engine light came on when I accelerated hard. Disconnected battery and all symptoms temporarily went away. the other day I accelerated hard and the check engine light came on again, but the car started and drove fine. It started fine this morning but idled low and I drove it to work, 37 miles. After work it was completely dead. No dome lights, not instrument lights when I put in and turned the key, and no start. It jump started right away, but died before I could get in it and had the same no electrical power symptoms. The battery is fairly new and the volt meter has always been in the charging range when running.
Any ideas???

wild guess here, but your battery cable. check that they are connected well, and NOTFRAYED. wiggle and then try to start. BTW, the person's above problem is not like yours at all.
