1998 S90 - Where do I jack this thing up??

Post by whirligig »

Unlike my V70 where I can place the jack underneath the front cross member to get the front wheels off the ground, the S90 looks seems more involved. I need to replace the control arm bushings and it would be great to have both arms worked on at my local machine shop.

My questions are:
1. Is there a beefy cross member behind the splash guard where I can use to lift the front wheels up?
2. I assume the front jacking points underneath the the A-pillar is where I can place the jack stands. Right?

Sorry for asking but I've become squeamish about crawling underneath a car after losing a co-worker who was crushed when his vehicle slipped off the jack. Thanks.

Also, "if you don't know where to jack up the car maybe you shouldn't be underneath it."

Yes, I'm aware of the instructions in the owners manual. I follow it to place jack stands underneath the control arms when I change the oil, replace radiator, and change timing belt. The problem, I guess, is I never liked the jacking points on this car, an open C channel with a pin connecting the walls. The walls gets crushed when I use a floor jack with a block of wood. I can only imagine how they look resting on a pair of stands.

The pictures are fine for a V70 but the S90 is a different beast.

I worked on my 1993-944, and used an older 240 OEM jack, a jack-stand, with tire underneath vehicle on that side.

I may have used a floor jack underneath it (240 OEM jack), once the tire was off the ground.

Hence, the jack-stand and tire underneath were backups...if stuff happened.

Thanks Regina93. I like your tire idea and the link to the instructions are good. Now to order parts and a ball joint puller,

There is a long bar behind the oil drain plug, I would use a Hydraulic jack on that bar, then install jack stands on each side using the support brackets. Hope this helps, Steve
