I have a replacement positive battery cable for my normally aspirated 2000 V70-- the old one had a significant voltage drop due to high resistance caused by corrosion. The connections at the battery and at the starter are a piece of cake, but there is a cable tray below the starter that the positive cable passes through that is hard to access-- I can't figure out how to open it to get the old cable out!
I have used an alternative routing for the time being, but I'd like to do this right and avoid potential shorting if the insulation rubs through on something. Please let me know how to open that cable tray up!

Your chances of opening up old plastic without creating more need for rare parts is slim.
I would put the new battery cable into an insulating sheath, even garden hose, and zip tie it every 6 inches into a good route.
