2006 V70 White Smoke & missing
Hi Guys apologies if this has been covered before at the weekend I did a 600 mile round trip In my V70 D5 using all road types A B and motorways everything was fine till about 12 miles from home when I stopped to put diesel in to make sure I got home as the on board Computer said 19miles of fuel left just after leaving the the forecourt the car seemed to loose power twice and pick up again as if running short of fuel after this the car ran fine got home let it tick over as usual with a turbo engine for a minute or two after such a long run everything fine shut down came out to use the car two days later and it's missing rattling and blowing white smoke from the exhaust so a quick look under the bonnet every thing looks fine oil & water OK so I took the L shaped pipe off a square unit that leads to the induction and the white smoke blew through this square valve type unit not sure if this is an EDR unit to be fair so my first thought is Turbo cream crackerd I do not have any codes stored as I checked with my Foxwell NT600 reader but there is a message engine system service so the question is would the symptoms be turbo or is it something else hope you can point me in the right direction as I'm not clever with Diesels as this is my first V70 with a Diesel motor thanks for reading Ant (aka musicmutt_uk)

We don't get diesels in the US, so you will need to hear from your countrymen on this one.
However, as a user of marine diesel engines, its a really bad idea to run them out of fuel. They don't prime too well, and air in the diesel lines is difficult to get out.
The 19 miles of fuel left is about 2 liters - thats not just cutting it close, its well within the error bars of the system. I think you just ran out of fuel and have air in your lines...but again, I have no expertise with Volvo car diesels.
