98 v70xc.. Smi or TRW rack?

Post by Matty Moo »

Just picked up a well used 98XC wagon.

Now... With my 850's I knew I had to know the difference if I had a TRW or smi rack when ordering inner tie rod ends. Did this still apply in 98? I've had several 98's but never had to mess with that area.

Trying to avoid crawling under this oily mess again.. The previous owner didn't believe in crush washers.

Picked up at auction. I think I can have this thing straight in a week, I think this is number 13.

Look at the product plate on the driver's side fender near the battery. 4 is TRW and 5 is SMI

Thanks Russ, I forgot about that. I have a 4 in the 26 spot so I have a TRW rack.

The real question is, how long did the ABS light stay on once it got into the garage? :)

Twenty minutes.

Scanned the codes, drove on it and figured it had a faulty module. It didn't have a speedometer anyway so put a new module in and the abs light wouldn't go off, scan pulled up an open circuit on the right front. Crawled underneath and saw the right front was unplugged at the steering knuckle, plugged it back in and it was good..

This car has been well used but is ready to come back. Just ordered $450 in parts. It will be road ready by next Friday. At least I think so.
