2001 S40 Ignition Key won't turn

It takes some fiddling to eventually get the key to turn. We have tried the 3 keys we have and they all will occasionally cause this problem. Does not happen every time, but is happening more frequently.

Am I looking at a dealer repair?

I may have answered my own question. A little time and some searching will do that sometimes. I found the above link for a 2004 wagon. I am hoping that the procedure will be the same.

Still questioning THIS failure tho. This problem is that the key will, on occasion, NOT TURN.

A similar problem on my 75 Porsche 914 but the key turned, it just did not activate the starter, or the fuel pump. And that was the electric portion of the ignition switch as in the link above. Different cars and parts could act differently, I guess.

Another similar issue was with my 04 Honda Odyssey. In this case the key would not turn.... again with some fiddling it turned and started the car. Took it to the dealer, for a RE-Keying. The mechanical tumbler portion had just worn out.

Anyone have any thoughts? test methods to try?

Just came across the following repair.
1998 s70 glt ignition tumbler free fix
I realize it's not for an '01 S40, but maybe it's a similar set-up.
