1997 850 P0102 Code—new MAF sensor, can't find leaks

Post by WaldosAkimbo »

Hi all,

First, I want to thank everyone here for helping me with numerous issues and saving me hundreds of dollars (and more importantly, teaching me priceless information about how my car works). This is my first time posting. I'm about to take the car in to a mechanic, but I just can't swallow my pride until I ask here first.

The issue: My check engine light came on a few days ago—I pulled the code (P0102), which relates to Mass Airflow Circuit. I replaced the Mass Airflow Sensor with a new OEM part about 4 months ago, so that should be good to go.

I also cleared the code, and it came back within a half hour or so of driving.

I'm not aware of any symptoms in terms of drivability, at least none that I can correlate with the check engine light.

I'm guessing the issue is with the hosing (or possibly the power going to the MAF sensor?). I checked for leaks and couldn't find any.

Is there anything else I should test before taking it in? If not, is there anything I should ask them for specifically? Smoke test?

Thanks in advance for the guidance.

Also, the car is pushing 230k+ miles, if that sheds any more light.

I would start with the idea that the air fuel ratio is off due to a intake leak. By smoking the intake system any leak will show up.

You have a vacuum leak. We had the same code, and it was a leak under the intake manifold on a corner. It took a lomg time to find it, but we fixed it.

Are we certain the electrical dongle is fully seated? I've also noticed several photos from various people who have ziptied the harness just before the dongle itself.
