1994 850 n/a Headlights Flash

For the past 2 weeks my high beams have been randomly going off and on. I live in Chicago so when I hit one of our infamous potholes they tend to switch. Last night though I parked my car and suddenly the high and low beams were flashing as if an alarm was triggered. My 850 is a base model and I don't have an alarm. I swapped out a headlight relay from my 98 S70 and that didn't solve the issue. I have the trailer light as well so I removed those. Any thoughts? I was planning on buying a new blinker/cruise control/high beam switch since my cruise doesn't work as well. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciate.

Could also be the light switch itself, but I think it is more likely a fault with the stalk/switch on the steering column. It could by faulty or just needs a good cleaning with electrical cleaner (remove it first!!). The poor part is over 20 years old so have some sympathy! Also check the wiring for loose or frayed wires or connections.

Last night I couldn't sleep, so I pulled the switch out of the column and cleaned it up. I drove it to work this morning and so far so good. I must say it is still in pretty good shape for being 22 years old.

Hopefully that is all it is! An accumulation of dirt over many years. Glad it may have been as simple. You sound like me, where once something gets into my head I can't sleep until my sub-conscious has put the problem to bed.
