2013 S60 BLIS not helping to avoid center-line hits

Post by s2zeller »

Maybe I'm misunderstanding the purpose of the BLIS package (or maybe I just need to RTFM), but I'm getting tired of these low-speed center-line hits to our rear (twice) and front (once... a Mercedes that came out of it with more damage) bumpers.

On the other hand, we are always alerted to the plant by the garage door and the trash can in front of us at the end of our parking space in the garage. :?

Are my expectations too high or misguided?

BLIS is only supposed to tell you about someone in your blind spot, such that you don't swerve into them. It wouldn't help for centerline incidents.

I've found it handy, but not trustworthy. I've seen the drivers' side alert to my hand hanging out the window with a smoke in it, and one time it went off for a patch in the pavement. The passenger's side, on the other hand, misses 7 cars out of 10 entirely. It seems to need a good contrasting paint color.

So, I still check my corners the old-fashioned way.
