2008 XC70 Procedure For Replacing Cooling Fan Assembly

Can anyone give me the correct procedure for replacing the cooling fan assembly in a 2008 XC70. 850's and V70's seem well documented, but not the P3 platform XC70. The fan assembly seems to be designed to come out through the top of the engine compartment, but it's so tight, I'm guessing that something else would need to be disassembled in order to make it possible. The space below the engine compartment seems too small relative to the thickness of the assembly for it to pass through. Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

Revitalizing this thread.

Did a keyword search for "cooling fan" in this forum and only pulled up 6 results. Anyone have any experience with this since the OP posted this in 2015. I'll be doing this next week.

1. Remove the intake manifold (replace the thermostat and small coolant hose at the same time)

It seems really easy....its not
