1994 850 No start. Code help please.

Post by powersct »

Hi all, I have pulled all the codes I can from the A/B box. Here's what I've got:

A1
134 Faulty load signal from ignition control module
143 Kickdown switch faulty or short to ground
223 Throttle position (TPS) sensor signal too low

Nothing from A2 or A6

Flashing Up arrow on the dash. Cranks- no start.

I'd appreciate some guidance in what to go after first. Thanks in advance.

Update. After some reading I locked/unlocked the doors 3 times as the battery was dead prior to the no start. Now starts. Flashing arrow and solid CEL. I'm surprised there aren't other codes. This was my daughter's car that lived in MD for the last 4 years. Coil and ICM are new of as of last week as she had some starting problems just before she left to come back up here. Guidance on where to poke around first still appreciated. In the meantime going to start looking for the draw that's killing the batt...

Read & reset ALL the codes and wait to see which ones comming back and start from there.
In the meanwhile....check if ecu(s) are fully seated.

Thanks Misha.

It's gotten a bit stranger. Got the batt issue resolved. I then let it sit for a day and it started right up. Today I was cleaning it up getting ready to post it for sale and I'm back to no start for no apparent reason. I noticed a couple of little issues that I'm sure someone has seen before- when it's in no start mode, I have flashing up arrow on the dash- when it started the other day the flashing arrow was gone. The other is that the temp gauge slowly goes to half while cranking and then pegs all the way up...just cranks away. I am certain this is electrical- just not sure where to start poking at it.

Damn thing is possessed. ;0

The engine coolant temperature sensor, or ECT, can go on these cars.

There are resistance tables in threads here to check

Use OEM only in this part.

Thanks abscate. I will look into the cts. The saga continues...

The car was running fine for a day or two and seemed stable...and I sold it.

She made it about 20 miles to the mall to run an errand, came out and it wouldn't start. Being a decent guy, it's back and I'm back on the problem. When it came back it would crank and no start. I let it sit overnight, tried it the next morning and it started right up. Today I took it out and got a mile. Died. Cranks, no start. In the process of getting it back here to reassess. Still looking for ideas. I will check resistance on the CTS and report back later today...

Check and replace fuel pump relay first.
Check and replace master fuel injection relay located at cooling fan carrier and it's connections. It's the grey one.
Does dtc(s) you previously had returns?
Did you replaced ect with oem as adviced?

Thanks Misha. Just getting back to it here. Went to get it and it started right up and drove it back to the house.

Decided to start form the beginning. It had a number of codes- some relevant some not and could have been a year ago for all I know. Wrote them all down and cleared the "A" box. When cranking it caught once or twice and died. Now no start. Pulled codes again and have ONLY a 314 on A6. "Cam position sensor faulty." Seems that may be it...

Yep!

One more stupid question. How do you get the connector out of the bracket without destroying it?

...and thanks to all for helping me work though this!
