99 V70XC camshaft position sensor?

It appears to have oil leaking around it.
it is located under upper engine mount.
is this the camshaft position sensor?
if so, doesn it have o-ring or something where it mount?

Does the senssor supposed to have O-rings on it? Ot has 3 grooves.
it clearly shows that it was leaking.

I think I have a spare that I took out of an old XC engine but it will be tomorrow before I can look at it. I don't recall that it had O rings since it shouldn't need them. The rear camshaft seal should keep oil out of the housing. If you have oil there then you have a bad rear exhaust cam seal.

On the intake cam, for some reason, there is no rear cam seal and Volvo relies on the cap to hold the oil back. I added a cam seal behind the cap on the intake side when I had things apart.

It takes nothing special to replace the seal. You need to be a bit careful when removing the old one so as to not mar the seal surface on the camshaft but you just pry out the old one and tap the new one in. Use a good seal. The Elring brand seals are terrible but I know the SKF brand are good and I think the Corteco brand is OK as well.

If you add a seal to the intake side you should figure on buying a new cap that covers the hole. I can never manage to get the old one out without destroying it in the process. If that isn't leaking you are probably just as well off leaving it alone.
