1996 850 Clock/Temp/Trip LED Bulbs

Post by panzergeist »

Hey all. New to the forums, having just purchased a '96 (non-turbo) 850.
Plenty of the usual issues are present (door strap pop, broken odometer, stuck antenna, cabin light/door chime short) and I'm working to address them.
This weekend I'll be fixing the odometer, and was hoping to replace the clock/temp/trip display bulbs with LEDs, but I'm at a bit of a loss.
I've been through the following links a few times:
http://volvoforums.com/forum/volvo-850- ... iss-28646/
which leads to
http://volvospeed.com/vs_forum/topic/10 ... of-my-car/
which indicated some issues with LED results for the clock/temp/trip display.
I also found http://volvospeed.com/vs_forum/topic/12 ... onversion/ which seems to just point to using a T5 wedge LED for clock/temp/trip but doesn't specify a configuration (tower, with lens, single focus, etc).
Lastly I came across this post:
http://volvospeed.com/vs_forum/topic/15 ... periences/
Unfortunately, the images in the thread appear to be dead references.

In short: Does anyone have a suggested LED solution for the clock/temp/trip display in a Volvo 850? Is the LED conversion for that function worth it?

I think it's worth improving these cars when you can. I would take the bulb out of the clock/trip display and match it with LED equivalent. The power window switches should be able to be matched also. On my VW Corrado I took the time and (I know it's a bit over the top) carefully pried the switch housings apart and soldered in red LED's to match my dash lights, (my stereo was already red). I messed up the first one with improper temp, but when it was done, the look was great! at least I thought so, my Wife....rolled her eyes.

I know that Sin (that's his real name) at IPD can help with this sort of thing. They are into the custom side of Volvo too, they might even have a kit made, plug-n-play is always a plus. The 1998 V70 that is loosely known as the last 850 has a kit for it, I think it's $40 from IPD?
