When I shift into reverse it does so really harsh almost banging. Its shifting fine through the gears driving it though. The harsh reverse shifting is only noticeable if the car has been driven for a while, first start with cold engine is fine. Transmission is the four speed AW 50-42.
Is this a common problem? Is there a solenoid to change or what?
Thanks

I know it may sound simple,
Have you checked your trans fluid level while the car is on level ground and warm?
If your 1999 has Bosch ME7 (ETM, fly-by-wire,), can't find your trans gremlins, and know a friend with a scan tool capable of reading Volvo specific info/codes (such as Autel maxi das 702+, or snap on, etc) you can read some very specific data from your trans computer to help solve the issue, even if there are no codes generated. Just a thought.
