2007 XC70 Tire replacement recommendations

Post by tboothe33 »

I'm confused on what tires to get for my 2007 XC70. Costco has Michelin tires on sale but the tire tech says the tire he has is not "recommended" for my car. Speed rating, braking distanced will be different. I would like to get the correct tires for my car, preferably all season, but I don't know what's best. Any suggestions?

Thank you.

Tracy :)

Maybe they did not have the right dimension? Even then, there are similar dimensions that will get a close overall diameter - so as to not change the speedometer too much. The tire rating doesn't matter as long as you don't race the car.

I'm pretty happy with Continental TrueContact (similar to their DWS model). Wife's V70 also likes its new General Altimax RT43. Both are quite and have enough grip.

Tire place local tells me I need a V rated tire. Since is AWD I need to get all 4 at one time. (I thought so, husband hates that, oh well). Is a TPM rebuild totally necessary? Will the TPM not work if I do not get that? I was looking at these tires. Bridgestone - Dueler H/L 422 Ecopia

What is TPM?

It is true Volvo sells the car with V rated tires because the car is capable of doing 130mph or so, so they need to make sure if there's some owner that will push the car to it's speed limit, it will be safe. Now when getting used tires, it's entirely your choice to get a tire for sustained high speeds or just a tire for regular driving. That tech is reading the Volvo specs and perhaps it's Cosco policy to sell for each vehicle a tire that can cope with the highest speed the vehicle can drive - for insurance reasons perhaps.

There is no need to replace all four tires on a AWD if two of them are still good. Just make sure to put on each axle - either front or rear - tires with the same amount of wear so the wheels on each axle turn both at the same speed (important so the AWD keeps working properly).

i have the same tire. thus far been very happy, we'll see how they do in the snow. i imagine they will be ok.

tpm, tire pressure monitor. is the '07 equipped with this feature? if so, the monitor is in the stem. not sure what your question is, but the there should be no need for tpm rebuild when replacing tires. not exactly sure what a tpm rebuild is.
