2000 S80 whirring sound in radio location

Does anyone know what the whirring is behind the climate control stack? It comes on when I open the door and stays on for several minutes after turning off the key.

maybe the little fan associated with the climate control?
could have ingested something?

I opened the panel and blew out the fan with compressed air
