I get some noises coming from the driveline when k first get going with the car - up to about 15-20km per hr.
It's mostly howling type sounds - but once I get going and start going faster they go away - and when the car is warmed up and I go those speeds I don't hear anything...
Thoughts? Is this the bevel gear starting to die?

The howling sounds could be coming from the driveline. On my '97 85 GLT (~180k miles) the howling sound comes from the oil thermostat when the engine oil is cold.
1997 855 GLT (Light Pressure Turbo) still going strong. Previous: 1986 240 GL rusted out in '06, 1985 Saab 900T rusted out in '95, 1975 Saab 99 rusted out in '95, 1973 Saab 99 rusted out in '94

Bren..I would guess oil thermostat, which you can safely ignore.
