Software Update

Post by joo070772 »

Hello All,

I am going to ask anyone work with software update at San Jose/SF Bay area. I do have 04 S60 Base & 01 V70 XC, after serviced regularly at the independent Volvo shop, they told me that my two Volvo’s has to be updated the all software & the estimate is $255.00 - $300.00 each (The dealer estimates $200.00 each item. For free update, has to be done along the any service performed). I heard of the web, someone available to get the software update with way too cheap. However, I could not locate from the web. Please help. I am leaving in Campbell, CA/South San Jose & San Francisco Bay area.

Regards

There is a rule of thumb don't touch anything that works properly :).
If you are told anything about update just ask they to name some important critical fixes that this sw update contains.
IMHO they just want your money.
If you have questions about Volvo firmware ask me. I may know an answer :)

Hello doublebug,

I was out of town for business trip, did not have enough time to check your post.
Thank you again.

Question:

1. Overhauled 5speed AT included only cleaned up the valve boby. last Jan. did not update the TCM SW.
Due to not engae in R.
Now, having an issue which is harsh upshift 1 to 2 at lower speed either below 2000RPM with HOT condition.
No issue, cold temp.
Before overhauled, no harsh shift 1 -> 2 issue. Only R engaging problem.
The Indi volvo shop says may need to be updated TCM SW + ETM SW.
Offered me included all other SW update will be $255.00 - $300.00
2. Should I update all SW for my 04 S60?

Regards

Ask them if they forgot about the FREE Volvo "software for life" program

Oh yeah
Now if your tranny calls for a specific update that may not be covered but $300????
Software costs then $30 or so and the "labor" is 15 minutes!!!

If you PM me your VIN and tell me what software they "say" they're charging you for, I can find out if it's supposed to be free

EDIT; nevermind, you answered your own question (I re-read your post)
Yes, you must get at least a small service for it to be free and they did tell you that

Update is free for the whole car. But if you want to update just some specific module you need to pay.
As for the tranny according to the symptoms I doubt that it will solve your issue.
Actually it may solve but only for some days. That is because sw update resets all adaptations. In some days everything will be at where it was before :)
If you have questions about Volvo firmware ask me. I may know an answer :)
